SGA FIRST-YEAR REPRESENTATIVES

Reports to: Vice President


General Description

The First-Year Representative is an appointed member of SGA and is responsible for the execution of SGA’s initiatives. She or he must be a first-year student on campus, either as a freshman or transfer student, and is appointed in the fall of the academic year in which she or he will serve. The First-Year Representative represents the APU student body by collecting student feedback, meeting with campus offices, and planning student events. There is one (1) First-Year Representative on the SGA team.


Duties of the First-Year Representative

  • Collect student feedback through in-person interactions, including tables on Cougar Walk and focus groups

  • Design creative ways to solicit student feedback

  • Analyze student feedback to determine actionable plans

  • Connect with offices across campus to communicate student feedback

  • Plan student events to enhance the student experience

  • Support other SGA members as needed

  • Complete tasks for committees as delegated by the committee chair


General Duties

  • Up to 6 hours of work per week

  • Serve on committees as appointed by the President

  • Attend weekly committee meetings

  • Attend all SGA Business Meetings

    • Business Meetings are held on Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30pm. It is the responsibility of the candidate to incorporate these meetings into their class schedule.

  • Attend at least two on-campus events each semester

  • Attend all MANDATORY retreats and orientations, including:

    • Orientation Training

    • Spring Training


Qualifications*

  • Must be a first-year (freshman or transfer) undergraduate member of APU as defined by the Registrar

  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.70, maintained throughout the term of office

  • Must be prepared to hold office both Fall and Spring semesters

  • Must proclaim and adhere to the University Statement of Faith and Student Leadership Covenant

  • May not work over 18 hours per week outside of SGA
